On January 29, 2013, Jason TARSO was arrested by the Campbell River RCMP Detachment on his outstanding warrants from the Cape Breton Regional Police Service. TARSO had several outstanding warrants for his arrest from Cape Breton which included, Assault with a Weapon, Assault, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Unlawfully in a Dwelling House, four counts of Breach of Probation and Fail to Comply on Conditions of a Recognizance or Undertaking.

TARSO was identified as a candidate for the BC Fugitive Return Program by the Campbell River RCMP. TARSO has an extensive criminal record dating back to 2004

TARSO’s return to Cape Breton to face his outstanding charges was funded and facilitated by the BC Fugitive Return Program in cooperation with the Campbell River RCMP and the Cape Breton Regional Police Service. TARSO was escorted back to Nova Scotia by the BC Sheriff Service, a key partner of the BC Fugitive Return Program.

The BC Fugitive Return Program is a program managed by the RCMP and a joint management team consisting of the Vancouver Police Department and the RCMP. This program is funded by the Civil Forfeiture Office within the BC government. On February 15, 2012, the Government of BC, the RCMP, all BC Municipal Police Agencies, and the BC Sheriff Service signed a Memorandum of Understanding which led to the establishment of a protocol governing the program.

Since September 2011, the BC Provincial Fugitive Return Program has facilitated the return of 30 individuals from various regions in BC wanted by other Provinces across Canada. The Program was created to hold individuals currently residing in British Columbia who have out of province arrest warrants accountable for their actions. It is hoped that facilitating the return of these individuals to deal with their outstanding matters will bring some measure of resolution to their victims.
